A hearty hello to you!
I just want to thank you for being
part of this premier issue of my Internet Marketing Updates
newsletter. I know I gave very few details about what it was all
about...but I'm so grateful that you trusted me to enter your
email inbox. I know how precious the space in our inboxes and
can be...believe me!
Which
leads me to my first subject....argh...that naughty and annoying
word "SPAM". It's something I've been working really
hard to control as of late.
Let's Get Back to
Being Productive - What to Do about Spam?
Okay, nobody seems to know what to
do...and in fact, I doubt there is a way to completely eliminate
spam.
But there are things we can do to
reverse some of the damage that SPAM is doing to our productive
days. Wanna know my plan? Perhaps a few of these ideas can help you get
back to business. If you're
like me, a few years ago, you started your online business...not
realizing that those insidious email harvesting robots were
collecting your email address..and so you gladly posted your
email address all over the place.
BLUSH! If you're like me you set up
an admin@, sales@, forums@ and me@ email address for all your
domains! Yikes! Multiples and multiples of spam.
Starting
FRESH: Well...I'm starting fresh. I have
reduced all my email addresses that I use for online business to
ONE single solitary email. Of course, I am temporarily
forwarding my other email to the new address until I get all my
contacts updated.
NO Catch All Address: One thing
that I didn't realize that was creating TONS of spam was that I
was using a catch-all address in my hosting CPANEL. This means
when anyone wrote to:
joeblow@, joker@, sillyou@ or hahaha@ ...I would get the email.
Well, I eliminated this from my CPANEL and BAM! Half the spam
already. Sheesh, how silly of me. When I do
post my email address, I use character entities, to hopefully
keep email harvesters from picking up my address. You can use
the free tool at
WBWIP.com
to easily encode your address too.
Stay
Organized: To keep my email organized, I'm using MailWasher, which
allows you to easily mark your friends and your enemies, so
email is easily sorted. YES..you can do this in Outlook, but
MailWasher does this BEFORE you actually download the email to
your computer. This means you can avoid potential viruses and
your deleted files don't get clogged with junk.
You can download a
free version of MailWasher and you can use it on one
email account. Or if you need it for multiple accounts...it's a
low-cost download for the
professional edition (which happens to have a free trial).
