I just returned from the Publishing
Profits Seminar in Chicago. I have learned tons and I'm still
processing it all. I am going to update you fully in the next
couple of weeks. There's just something that has been bugging me
since before I left and I
wanted to share it with you.
Last week, I was saddened to see a good online friend quit
her Internet business, so I told her I thought it was a shame that
she was closing shop. She wrote back and told me she had been
trying to build an online business for 2 years, with no luck.
She told me I hurt her feelings because I suggested that she was
"giving up".
I was so sorry that I had hurt her feelings, but I was still
didn't want to see her
drop a business she put a lot of time and money into. But
what surprised me was that in her email, she wrote:
"I have been doing the same thing for 2 years"
...so she was calling it quits.
Wait a second! If you do the same
thing for 2 years and it doesn't work...you've got to make
changes.
So, my question to you is....
...Are You Doing Everything You Can to
Make Your Online Business Successful?
I would never propose to tell you the best way to market your
online business as there are so many options, methods and they
are all often dependent on your marketing budget. However, there
are a few key ingredients to a successful online business that
everyone can use.
That's
why I'm
going to give you a little checklist to look at every time you
think about quitting your online business. If you haven't fully
explored, educated yourself and put into practice the items on
the checklist...it is not time to give up yet, okay?
Here
goes...
Newsletter: I am writing and promoting an informative newsletter that
shows my expertise in my field and skillfully blends information
with promotion of my products and/or services.
Copywriting: I have learned the fine art of web copywriting and applied it
to my website, so I can effectively persuade my visitors that my
products are the best.
Pay-per-Click: I have educated myself in pay per click advertising
techniques and perfected my technique using Google AdWords
(highly recommended) or
Overture.
Website Statistics: I have analyzed my website statistics to see where my
visitors enter and leave my site, how long they stay and I know
where my visitors who buy are coming from.
Networking: I effectively network - not advertise - on networking groups
and forums. I use networking to build strategic partnerships and
learn how to develop my business, not to make a quick sale.
Affiliate Program: If I sell my own product, I have implemented an affiliate
program so that others can sell my product. AND more
importantly, I have learned about affiliate marketing so I can
train my affiliates and provide them with the promotional
materials they require.
And remember, successfully applying
what you've learned is key. It's not enough to say, "I read
through that search engine optimization ebook and nothing
happened."
You need to put it into practice and
refine your techniques until they are foolproof.
For a very short time, I'd like to
