Hi there,
What's new? Life is moving along
swiftly here...the year is half over (can you believe it?) and
it's going great!
Over the past few weeks, we've been
talking about information product publishing (highly recommended
for someone like you with an online business and a special area
of knowledge!).
If you remember, at one point, I
encouraged you to embrace your competitors as your potential
business partners. No matter how much we would like to, we can't hoard all our ideas and claim no
one else can develop them.
If you don't remember or missed it,
please read my article:
How to Copyright an Idea. It's a great way to turn a
potential negative into a positive.
But Back to Info
Products : Packaging!
We've done some
product research and
talked a bit about
product development. But one of the most popular questions that
people ask is -
-> What format should I use for my
ebook?
You'll always get the same answer
out of me - PDF. It is the format that is most widely useable by
all operating systems and it is the most user friendly. It's
just not
fair to your paying customer to put all kinds of cumbersome
security on your ebook just because someone else might steal it.
PDF
Recommendations & Where to Make them for FREE
If you don't want to shell out the big bucks for Adobe
Acrobat, I don't blame you. You can make PDFs with image and
active links for free. You just have to go to a website,
upload your document and then it's emailed to you.
-> Free PDF creation:
GoBCL.com
There are also inexpensive
solutions to PDF that allow you just to click print on your
computer and it will generate a PDF for you. If you'd like
the convenience, you want to consider a purchase of
Instant PDF Generator.
But What
about Other Media?
As you know, everyone learns in
a different way. Some people like to read, some like to
listen, some like to watch and some like to interact.
Consider adding the following to
your information product line:
Audio
Tutorials: If you are
just recording yourself or someone in the same room, you can
use a program like
All Recorder, which allows you to easily create mp3s on
your computer with a microphone.
For recording telephone
conversations, to get clear sound, you'll need to
invest a little more cash. JK Audio's
Inline Patch does the trick beautifully.
You can produce MP3s for
immediate download or you can copy them onto a disk to mail
your customers. Cassette tapes might still be popular for
those listening in their cars.
Video: I haven't
had the opportunity to use video in my products, so I can't
give an honest recommendation on products. However, before you decide to
use video, make sure your topic lends itself to a video
display. If it's just you talking...it may not be so
interesting. :(
But if you are teaching people
how to grow the best orchids, it would be perfect for video!
I imagine the DVD is becoming
the standard for this, but you may want to include a video
cassette option too. You can also offer video as an
immediate download.
Consulting /
Membership Website:
So many people want hands on help and want to interact with
you. They'll even pay you good money to do so - month after
month.
You can set up a consulting
business where you charge per hour or give unlimited access
for a flat fee. You can also set up a membership website,
where you have a forum and resources to help your members.
Give people access to YOU and they'll be eating it up.
The right packaging is
important. If you appeal to the learning styles of everyone
in your target market and make it easy for them to learn,
you'll have plenty of satisfied customers.
